DarkEvil was built using A Visual basic game engine and has evolved a lot since first started in 2004. DarkEvil is constantly expanding by the day, introducing new items, worlds, spells, players, and quests.
This is a fairly new game, and is still in the developmental stages.

Getting Started To begin playing, click on DarkEvil Online's icon on your desktop (find where you downloaded the File to, it would be best to keep it where you can find it at all times, IE DeskTop). Wait for it to get set up and you will be brought to the main menu. Right now you need to click "New Account". Fill out the simple form to create your character. A simple form opens up. Fill in the account nickname you want, and type your password twice. Your password should be difficult to guess or crack. Please note that no DarkEvil Online staff member will ever ask for your password. Keep it private at all times. Click "Create Account". If all goes well, you'll return to the main menu. You can now make use of all the menu options. You can: Delete your account (You probably don't want to do that now), or use it to login. To do so, please click the top left option, labeled oh-so-creatively "Login". Type in your name and password. If you want the game to remember this password or even to log you in automatically when you boot up the application, then check the appropriate checkboxes below. This can be nice for people who want to save time. Assuming your account information is typed correctly and the server's up, you'll log in. Right now, though you have your account created, you don't have a character. Your character is the guy (Or girl) who actually ends up navigating the DEO world. You can have three characters, maximum, but you don't start out with any. Click "New Character". A screen with options for your character should pop up. First, type in your character's name. It can be anything, even your account name. Then, choose whether you want your character to be male or female - that is, select the appropriate check bubble located at the right. Now it's time to make the most important decision of character creation - you can select your class. If you've ever played an online RPG before, you're probably familiar with this. Your class determines your identity - how strong you are, whether you can use magic, what you look like. Your character's class is sort of like their job, their skill. All classes begin with a default amount of "stats"; HP, MP, SP, MAGI, STR, DEF, TNL, and SPEED. HP stands for health points. They represent your character's vitality. Every time you take damage - from a spell, a monster, or a rival player - your HP falls. When it drops to zero, well, you die. MP is similar - it stands for Magic Points. If you choose to be a magic-wielding class, you can cast spells. They drain your MP. When it falls to zero, you can't cast any more spells. STR is more simple - it affects how hard you hit when you attack, and how heavy weapons you can wield. The same applies to DEF - it affects how resistant you are to attacks, and how heavy armor you can wear. MAGI is also similar to strength - it has a bearing on your MP, and on how powerful your spells are in general. TNL stands for "To Next Level". This little Bar in Game tells how far you are to reaching your next desired Level. It will increase every time you receive Experience from a Monster or any other thing. You can pay attention to it if you want, or just rapid train on Monsters without no desired Level to reach. Your SPEED and SP are rather more complicated. You see, your stats are not static. As you become more experienced with combat, they develop and grow depending on how you choose to hone them. Your SPEED and SP determine how fast they grow. With that being said, you know now most everything about stats. That wasn't too complicated, right? You can now view and understand the stats in the class summary below. -This won't interest the Non-Magic Side of DarkEvil Online; Ok, there's been a complication of usage in Spells. We'll I've figured it out. To use a Spell, please be sure you have gotten the Item which will gain you the Spell. Once you have it, click it. There are certain Requirements, be aware. Once you've done this, go to your Specials List and Double Click your Spell, it will memorize it. Now, depending on what the Spell does, you have two Options. One is to use it on yourself or on another. If this spell is a Healing Spell, be wise to use this on yourself or another Player (friend). Now, click the Spell and then choose a Target (could be yourself?) then click the "Cast" tab which will heal you or the other player. The same goes for attacking other enemies (IE, PKers, NPCs) Click your Spell that you wish to attack with then the Target. Then click Cast and this will use that spell on the Target. Depending on what Level it is and what Level you are, the Damage will differ. Banking System One of the creative things in DarkEvil Online, the Bank. This is the place that you can store your Items if you don't need to hold them. There are only 30 Slots for you to hold your Items in, better than nothing though, right? Well anyway's, once you are in the proper place inside the Bank, you may make use of the Commands. If a Slot gets filled, simply find another spot. There are more than one after all. If there are any Bugs or questions then type /wish (feedback, support, suggestions, etc). That applies to anything. Remember, if it appears you are stuck or something is not working properly, type /refresh and if it still isn't working right then /wish it in. Command list is further down. So, now that you've familiarized yourself with DEO'S classes, pick the one you most like or are most interested in for your character. Don't be afraid to experiment - you're able to delete characters and start fresh if you don't like the class as much as you thought. Once you're ready, click "Create New Character" and then "Use Character" and you're logged in! You'll see your icon in the center of the map screen. All that's left to do now before you can start playing is to get a basic understanding of the interface. At the bottom of the screen, there should be a bunch of text, likely in different colors. This is the chat. In it, you can see all the messages that people playing submit for you to read. To send a message yourself, move your cursor over to the bar at the top and select it. Type and press enter. Go on and try it - type "Hello". There are also commands that you can enter in the chat. These perform some useful function in the game. Commands look something like this, /help. That's the help command. Try submitting it and you'll get a list of all the other commands you can use. A detailed summary is below. Commands List /help - Displays all available commands. Type it by itself. /info playername - Gets all available information about a certain play and displays it. If there's a player named Trilo, say, who you want info on, type /info Trilo. /who - Shows all the people currently playing. Type it by itself. /fps - Displays your frames per second. /inv - Shows all the items you have in your inventory, equipped or not. Type it by itself. /stats - Prints all your current stats. Remember those? It shows your HP, STR, et cetera. /party playername - Sends an invite for a party (Group) with you and another player. Substitute someone's name for playername. /join - Remember the /party command? If you've been sent an invite, this responds to it and lets you actually join the party. /leave - Yet another party command. Say you're getting tired of sticking around with your groupmates and want to leave the party? It's easy to do that - just type /leave. /refresh - This does pretty much what you'd expect. It just refreshes the screen. Use this if you're noticing a lot of lag or if you think you are experiencing a Bug. Like if you can't pick up an Item or hit an NPC, or if you can't move in a certain direction. - Simple command, eh? Type " before your message to make it global - that is, make it so that every player can hear it. -/me Another short command. This is an emote command - use it for role playing. Type - before your message and it'll substitute your name. Example output, if your name were dogbone: - /me jumps up and down with glee. dogbone jumps up and down with glee. If you've played many multiplayer online games before, some of those commands may look familiar. They're similar to IRC commands, in fact. It won't do any harm to play around with them - enter some and try and remember the results. /report (yourreporthere) - This will report a player to Wolfdog by sending the information you input to a log in the server for him to check. Examples of how to use it: /report Wolfdog was spamming! - Good way to use it. /report hi my nam iz triloÀÀ - Bad way! Please don't abuse this or you will be dealt with. Game play So - now it's time to play! The first thing to do is to procure yourself a weapon. Kinda sad to be a swordsman without a sword, right? Right now, you're standing in a town, utterly without money. Still, look around. There has to be a weapon lying around somewhere, right? It'll look more or less like a sword. Use the arrow keys to walk over to it (To run, hold shift at the same time) and pick it up. You do this by pressing enter. Now, move your cursor over to the menu right below the game screen. Third option - it says "Inventory". Click that, please. See the boxes that come up? One of them will be filled in, if you picked up the sword right. Right now your sword is in your inventory - that is, you're carrying it, but not holding it. Double-click the sword icon to wield it. It'll develop a yellow border once you succeed. Again, simple, right? See if there're any other items lying around - armor, perhaps. Repeat this process with them. This item interface is one of the cornerstones of DEO'S game engine, so it's best to get used to it. Now that you've been outfitted with this gear, what to do with them? Fight, of course! You'll notice a bunch of people walking around in the first area - just the way they would be in a regular area. These are NPCs, non player characters. Try walking up to one of the ones labeled "Dove" and press Ctrl. Ctrl is the key you press when you want to attack. You'll see the Doves health meter (The colored bar near their name) drop. You just damaged it - depleted its HP. it will do the same to you. You'll probably have noticed your health dropping even now. There's only one thing for it, now that you've initiated combat! Hit Ctrl like there's no tomorrow and if all goes well, you'll have won. Something you may or may not see is that this Dove sometimes drops items after death. All NPCs have a chance of dropping items. The weaker ones drop, understandably, common items, but later in the game you can hunt down stronger foes who often yield unique, magical gear or money. Remember that standing over an item and pressing Enter picks it up. Whether or not your character is a magic user, you will be able to buy or find spells. For later, though, we're going to review the magic system. The other menus are much less complex. They're listed and summarized below. Level: - This will display your STR, DEF, and so on in another window. Status: - This will display the current state of your health and MP and TNL. Inventory: - Clicking this will open a window with all the current items you have on you. Equipment: - This is similar to the Inventory menu. It displays all the items you have equipped at the moment. There are four types of items that you may equip, shields, weapons, helms and body armor. Spells: - This will show all the spells you currently know. (To learn one double click the item in inventory) Guild: - Being new to deo, you probably will make very little use of this. Guilds are like teams, in a way. Most guilds are founded around a specific cause. You can use the Guild menu to join a guild, should you get an invite, but don't expect to be a guildmember from the beginning. Chat: - This allows you to open a "chatroom" with someone. Chatrooms are private and good for personal messages. Guild invites, etc, are often given through chatrooms. Who's Online: - This is identical to the /who command. It brings up a list of what players are currently online. NOT ADDED YET Friends: - This will bring up a window that will let you choose your friends by adding them in the form. Options: - This is simply the game option menu. It contains things like music control, sound control what you'd expect, really. Take a look at it now and see if there's anything you want to change. EXIT: - Self explanatory. (closes the game) Congratulations! You've now learned the basics of DarkEvil Online, and are ready to start really playing the game! You may want to take a moment to look over the rules and roleplaying sections below. Of course, understandably, everyone wants to get to the action now, though. Have fun, explore and experiment, and remember to feel free to ask questions! Rules Please visit the rules here http://wolfdogmp.createforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=729 Roleplaying Roleplaying is not required. However, it is encouraged. Roleplaying is the mark of a truly serious player. I (Wolfdog), and indeed, all the administrators, will take note of and reward honestly original and well-done roleplaying. Roleplaying is not merely speaking with an odd accent. Roleplaying means developing a character and their background, and then acting as that character would at all times. Keeping "in-character" is difficult, and again, it isn't required by any means. However, good roleplayers are the ones who usually find themselves in influential positions (Leaders of powerful guilds,). It may be frustrating if you're trying your best to act in-character and people all around you aren't, but remember, your influence may rub off on people. Finally, it's supposed to be fun! You don't have to be perfect every second of every day. It's perfectly fine to play just to relax. If roleplaying doesn't appeal to you, don't do it. No RP'ing is better than bad RP'ing, as many say. Now go out there and have fun! Please be sure to visit all Areas of DarkEvil Online. It is a vast area of many things. Remember, have fun. Credits: All Credits go to Wolfdog. |
